Chances are you stopped by my site because of it’s name. “Rewilding” is the latest term in the environmental scene, and maybe you are expecting tips on how to turn your lawn into a meadow or a wildflower garden. In time, that will be true, but in this case the term rewilding is meant to define an action of the soul. This blog is about returning to ones true self after turning away to pursue all those things we were always told to pursue. Many of us turned away to answer those questions asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” “What school do you want to go to?” Many of us got very good at answering those questions at family holidays like we were performing for an interview. I also think that these were the seeds of doubt planted and took root as anxiety, disappointment, and shame. So many of us now live in little isolated boxes filled with boxes that are filled with things that are meant for someday, but not today, and everyday becomes — not today.
This blog for me is meant to serve as a space for people to come to and reflect on what is most important to them, and yes, there will be posts on how to turn your lawn into a meadow, and how to grow potatoes on your balcony without spilling water on your neighbor. But it will also be a space with resources that will give you a chance to connect with others and volunteer at projects that will get you back in touch with the land.
You have always been in nature, you just couldn’t see the forest, just the street. but the city that you live in is built on a foundation that is held up by the Earth, you don’t need to go anywhere to reconnect, you can rewild in place.
